As depicted in this study,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/water-alternating-gas-injection\">WAG injection<\/a>\u00a0could enhance CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0residual and solubility trapping based on an\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/earth-and-planetary-sciences\/integrated-modelling\">integrated modeling<\/a>\u00a0workflow. First, continuous CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0injection and WAG were compared to demonstrate the efficiency of the WAG process for CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0trapping enhancement. To achieve this while highlighting the impact of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/reservoir-heterogeneity\">reservoir heterogeneity<\/a>, 200 geological realizations were generated considering a wide range of plausible geological conditions. The ranking of these realizations was performed by quantifying the CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0cumulative injection (P10, P50, and P90 realizations) that represent the overall geological uncertainties. Then, an innovative robust workflow was used Artificial Intelligence optimizer to determine the optimal solution for CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0trapping. For comparison, a nominal optimization workflow of P50 realization was also conducted. The proposed robust optimization workflow resulted in higher CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0trapping than the nominal optimization workflow.
